Layoffs hit Sega of America, EA studios

Another round of layoffs have occurred, this time hitting both Electronic Arts' Tiburon, Florida studio and Sega of America. EA has already revealed that 10 percent of its workforce will be cut, consolidating many of its studios. Tiburon (Madden, NCAA football series) has let go of 21 customer service employees and half its Quality Assurance team. Meanwhile, reports surfaced that Sega's San Francisco staff has been cut by 30 members, including employees in both development and publishing. This was later confirmed by an update to one of the former employees' Facebook profile, wishing his/her former co-workers well as they continue their careers.

It should be noted that these layoffs come less than two months before the end of the 2008 fiscal year, which ends on March 31st. It can be assumed that more layoffs will occur as we head into the new fiscal year.Mythic Entertainment (Warhammer Online) is another target of EA's cost-cutting, losing a significant number of staff members. Finally, Vancouver based Black Box (Skate, Need for Speed) is reported to have moved all its projects to its studio in Burnaby, British Columbia. It's also been rumored that Electronic Arts' Los Angeles studio (Boom Blox) will be impacted by these cuts.
