The combat is also gruesome in a way that makes Warhammer fans smile

Walker units will pick up grunts in their claws and squeeze them till they explode, while blood and body parts fly in explosions. Just like in Company of Heroes, there's destructible terrain as well. Don't let a wall get in your way; just have your tank or Dreanaught punch a hole in it to surprise the enemy on the other side.If a unit is taking a pounding, there is the familiar "fall back" button that makes them disengage and withdraw to the stronghold, where you can spend points to reinforce the squad to replace losses. When it comes to vehicles, We've seen upgrades where you can give a tank thicker armor, or equip a Space Marine Dreadnought with a flamer. 

Dawn of War II was already one of the games that we we're most looking forward to in 2009, and the multiplayer suite only strengthens its case that this is going to be one of the key games to keep an eye on next year. Relic has done some great work over the years, but the multiplayer formula that it came up with in Company of Heroes looks like it was tailor made for the sci-fi carnage of Warhammer. Thankfully, we won't have too long to wait, as Dawn of War II is scheduled to ship in the first quarter of the year.
