The first act of the campaign in Warhammer is fairly linear

Since this is the introduction. It starts to branch a bit the deeper you get into it, but we're told the decisions get a lot harder in the subsequent acts. That's because you'll be presented with multiple requests for help, and the way the game plays out you can only execute one troop deployment per day (there is a way to manage two deployments if you're playing well). Some requests will expire before you can address them, and that's that.

The missions are so short that you're supposed to play through them in a single sitting. In fact, there isn't a way to save a game in a mission; you save between missions.One of the things that the designers are really trying to hammer in is that it's okay to lose missions; you can recover from setbacks.  Meanwhile, you can't create save points whenever you get to a fork in the campaign; you just have one campaign save. After all, if you're playing a sports game and the other team scores, you don't hang it up. You dig down and try and fight back.
