Battlefield objectives are places of interest that each side can capture and control. There are often 4-6 objectives to battle over in a given tier zone pairing and they are always located in the RvR enabled areas. Objectives could be anything: A dock, a lagoon, an iron-clad warship, a central city square, even a stick in the mud.
Your average battlefield objective is protected by five NPC guards. For Tier 1, four of these guards are standard strength NPC monsters. The fifth guard is the commander of the battlefield objective and is a Champion strength NPC monster. It is quite possible to capture battlefield objectives in tier 1 with small groups. Some classes are even capable of capturing a BO solo if they are strong enough. For upper tiers, the guards become considerably stronger, requiring a stronger and larger force to capture them (often times 4 champion monsters and 1 hero).
Only after all the guards have been defeated, players can click on the enemy's banner to tear it down and raise their own. Players are granted a considerable amount of Realm Points for doing this. The total of course varies between tiers, but it is comparable to a good Scenario run. A short fanfare plays across the RvR area, indicating to all players that an objective has changed hands. Now the hard part - the new owners of the objective must now hold the fort for 3 straight minutes. During this time, anyone from the opposing side can walk up and take it back. If the defenders are successful, they receive another chunk of realm points and the scenario is locked down under their control for 15 minutes. At the end of the 15 minute period, guards will spawn for your factions and the objective is open to attack from your enemies. Between the initial RP boost and the second RP boost at the end of the 3 minutes, taking battlefield objectives is one of the fastest - if not the fastest - way(s) to accumulate RP currently. |
