Warhammer Online's world is a bit different than the type you'd find in most MMORPGs.

Its world is not nearly as expansive as those in some other games, and the terrain will prevent you from reaching every spot on the map.The game world in Warhammer Online is rather unique in that it's not implemented as one giant world map.  This is not a bad thing at all though. In some MMORPGs you can camp in a remote spot won the map and not see another player for hours, but in Warhammer Online you'll never feel that isolated.Your starting realm is determined by your character's race, but once in the game you're free to travel between them or to stick just to your race's areas and follow its story arc exclusively.

At the highest level it is divided into three realms aligned with the major rivalries in the war: The Empire vs. Chaos (good humans vs. evil humans), Dwarves vs. Greenskins (orcs), and High Elves vs. Dark Elves. These realms are further divided into tiers based on character level ranges, with each of the four tiers supporting roughly ten character levels each. In turn, each tier is divided into several maps.Smaller lands mean that you spend far less time traveling from one location to another and more time actually playing the game. Also, the terrain works to direct players to key locations on the map and ensures that players from opposing factions can easily find each other and spend their game time crossing swards and scouring the map in the hopes of finding one opponent.
