When you pick a side you have a few options in Warhammer.

You can choose between different chapters, clans, craftworlds, or hives depending on the faction that you pick (for Space Marines, Space Orks, Eldar, and Tyranids, respectively). This mainly effects your units color style and appearance. The bigger choice is to select a hero unit to lead your forces in battle. Here's where you can differentiate. Then there's the Infiltrator, which is sort of a stealthy unit that can be used as a "troubleshooter" for any situation. ( We're using the Space Marine terms for these hero units; other factions have their own terminology for basically the same classes.)

We played in three-on-three matches, which was a great number because that ensured there was plenty of stuff going down on the battlefield. That makes sense, though; the more players, the more havoc, right?  Annihilation is a standard deathmatch mode where the goal is to completely wipe the other team off the map. Since Annihilation battles can last a while, there's also a Victory Control Point mode that has three control points on the map. The goal is to seize and hold two of the control points; doing so builds up points for your team. The winning team is the one that hits the point threshold first. This puts a huge amount of pressure to go on the offense if you're behind; you can't afford to dawdle.A Force Commander is a very up-front battlefield commander, if you want to be aggressive. The Apothecary is the healer, if you want to play more of a support role. The Techmarine is a builder who can establish defensive turrets and structures.
